The next edition of Circulation(s) festival take place from April 5 to June 1st, 2025 at CENTQUATRE-PARIS

Created in 2011, Circulation(s) is the first French festival dedicated to emerging European photography. For the past 15 years, it has brought together emerging artists from all over Europe. They are selected by the festival’s collective artistic direction, made up of 6 independent curators, following a public call for applications.

Within Circulation(s), we consider Europe primarily as a geographical entity. However, faced with the reality of nationalist regimes that no longer hide their intentions, the link between populations and territories has never been so tangible and necessary. The territorial issues that run through this 2025 edition echo the transitions we are facing, both as individuals and as a society.

From Lebanon to Chechnya, from the Aeolian Islands to Guadeloupe, whether we come from there or live there, territories are the crucible in which our identities and questions are forged. Certain geographical areas are finally emerging from the silence and expressing themselves forcefully.

We’re delighted to give voice this year to a generation of Franco-Caribbean who are reclaiming the narrative of their heritage and history. Each series unveils a shifting, plural and poignant map of our shared realities, and offers a fresh take on the collective imagination.

The richness of this fifteenth edition also lies in the exploration of intimate territories as places of resistance and experimentation in the face of systemic violence.  We make a point of welcoming different testimonies and perspectives to each edition, enabling us to renew our perceptions.

For the past six editions, our focus is dedicated to a European photographic scene that is still under-represented. Following on from the French Institute’s season devoted to this country, we are delighted to invite this year Lithuania. This Baltic country’s commitment to welcoming Ukrainian refugees is not only a tribute to our remarkable focus last year, but also makes it a place where the burning issues of history, current affairs and future prospects for Europe and the world intersect.

Over the past fifteen years, the Circulation(s) festival has never ceased its commitment : to artists, to audiences, to open-mindedness and freedom of expression. Fifteen years of positions taken, bets made and pledges made, fifteen years of effort and growth. Our successes are many, and the desire to build bridges, give a voice to creators and question our world together drives us on every year. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and look forward to continuing this adventure with you.
